Laura Sargent
Laura Sargent, 50, is Mrs. Eddy’s chief companion and personal aide. She is closest to being an actual peer of Eddy in terms of intellectual and spiritual depth. Laura is a lovely, quiet, accomplished woman who has left her home and a successful, lucrative practice as a Christian Science healer to serve at Pleasant View. Daughter of a New England sea captain, Laura is unflappable during the tempestuous mental storms that often rock Pleasant View.

Catherine Keener. She has a quiet strength when she acts.
Kathy Bates – for some reason the photo and description above made me think of the character Molly Brown in Titanic
Cheryl has performed in many roles and I believe she would be passionate in her portrayal of Laura Sargeant.
Julie Caitlin Brown
Hm, I think Meryl Streep could also be a choice here. Or maybe Sandra Bullock?
Well then if Cate Blanchett, who I feel would probably be Val’s first choice, plays Mrs. Eddy then Emma Thompson would play Laura. Or maybe could be a role for Sharon Stone or Michelle Pfeiffer, eh?
Renee Zellweger
Shelley Duval
Helen Hunt. Joan Allen. Felicity Huffman.
Didn’t mean to leave out Annette Bening.
Michelle Pfeiffer or Jane Seymour
Catherine Keener.
Whitney Wood daughter to Doug Wood.
A graduate of Prin, a New York actress.

Gwyneth Paltrow would be a wonderful choice to portray this lovely, quiet and accomplished yet unflappable loving Friend of Mrs. Eddy’s. I sense she has the integrity, demeanor and intelligence to also grasp the divine in metaphysical healing and hopefully the Science of Christian Science.
Georgia Engels
I think Laura Linney would be wonderful here, she has such a strength and quiet soul and depth.
Julia Ormond, Gwyneth Paltrow, or Catherine Keener would be strong possibilities.
Catherine Keener or Jane Seymour.
Glenn Close. She has a quiet dignity about her.
I wonder if you’ve thought of Jean Stapleton for any parts in ths movie. She is a wonderful, dedicated Christian Scientist and of course, a delightful actress. I worked for her many years ago as her “Mother’s Helper” when she was doing Summer Stock in PA and took care of her kids, Sunday School, the whole bit. Jean is a doll!
Natalija Nogulich….as she is a very interesting actress and has an old world feel to her. And again she is a dedicated Christian Scientist.
Emma Thompson
Rosanna Arquette
Kathy Bates.
Michelle Pleifer
Jodie Foster or Gwenyth Paltrow – at the very least, for their cool
Sandra Bullock would be perfect!
I agree Laura Linney would be good in this role.
Mary Steenburgen or Sandra Bullock.
Ann E. Hart – otherwise known as me. : )
actually I would be better for Minnie, but the link didn’t work. Trained with the Guthrie and at Strasberg LA. Worked with Sally Jackson back in the mid 80’s in Santa Fe.
Donna Stephenson, local actress of stage, Nashville, TN Can put you in touch with her. Very good actress!! and unknown.
Kathy Bates for sure
Marissa Toremi
Cate Blanchett
Brooke Shields
Jennifer Ehle would be terrific.
How about Nicole Kidman?
Catherine Keener
Shelly Duvall, Catherine Keener, Wendy Crewson, Melissa Gilbert
Julia Ormond would do very nicely.
I just wanted to add this to this page, there was a suggestion for another role but looking at the actresses bio I think she would be better suited for this role instead of the Minnie Adelaide Still’s role.
The actress suggested was Shirley Cheechoo and I think she seems more like this character looking at the films she’s wrote and acted in, just a thought. I love Sandra Bullock and see every film she has but I might suggest her for the role for Twain’s daughter, she has done a great deal of work with southern accents and she lives in Texas so she probably has a better range of realistic southern accents, if you look at Val’s version of Twain, he’s great, he knows how to make the southern accent flow out like it’s his natural way of speaking, that’s a noticeable thing that adds incredible value when someone can do the accent well enough to be a native. So I’ll go review the daughters profile and check to make sure my thoughts are right. I love Sandra Bullock and I have seen ever film I can find that she is in because she has this naturalness about her that’s I want to buy into as an audience member.
Juliet Binoche of Chocolat, and The English Patient came to mind. I think she could portray a 50 year old Laura Sargeant with grace and wisdom, the characteristics Mrs. Eddy would look for in a true friend.
Nicole Kidman. I work with Tourism Australia and she seems perfect for this role. She first came to mind for the role of Mary Baker Eddy, yet this might be a better fit. Nicole would be great as either.
Laura Dern
