John G. Salchow
John G. Salchow, 52, is Mrs. Eddy’s groundskeeper and handyman, serving her with a childlike devotion that is comically sincere. Burly son of a German immigrant farming family, John literally left his plow in a Kansas field and boarded a train for Concord two hours after receiving the call to come to Pleasant View. He still runs from task to task and works around the clock, doubling as night watchman ever since the home was broken in to several years earlier.

If it was cast younger somebody like Patrick Wilson or Josh Lucas. They seem to have the stature and can pull off endearing characters. Actors closer to Salchow’s age range are tricker…maybe Aidan Quinn or Bill Campbell.
I would love to submit myself for this role, if indeed the role can be cast younger. My range goes to mid thirties.
Harrison Ford.
Gary Oldman
Perhaps Jurgen Prochnow has that protective loyal quality that is needed here.
Anthony Tyler Quinn
Willem Dafoe
David Morse
When I saw this photo, the first actor I thought of was Woody Haroldson!
Nicholas Campbell is my suggestion.
He’s not German, but what about John C. Reilly? I like the idea of David Morse, too – would not have thought of him myself. Also not German but worth considering: Gerard Depardieu. Don’t know Salchow’s age; makes it a bit difficult.
Bill Paxton
Bill Paxton would be great. Daniel Day Lewis, or Ben Affleck some other thoughts.
Tom Sellak
Victor Garber
John C Reilly
Josh Brolin
If you want to keep the role kind of German, why not think about the Austrian Christoph Waltz?
Dick Davenport, former C.S. Airforce Chaplain & Bible scholar. Of St. Louis, Missouri.
Good suggestions: Woody Harellson, Bill Paxton, and Josh Brolin.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
John C Reilly came to mind immediately.
Mark Ledbetter
myself
Christian Slater or Stephan Baldwin
Far lesser know but Rik Billock, I think he could do this role justice and life:

Leonardo di Caprio.
Rutger Hauer
Patrick Bergin
Already have great suggestions, but I saw Kurt Russell.
I agree, Tom Selleck is the man for this role!
John Lithgow
Steve Zahn
Liam Neeson
Robert Maillet. He was Dredger in Sherlock Holmes.
Hayes Rutherford. Now in the US, a citizen, and looking for work
Christoph Waltz
Liv Shrieber He’s got that accent down man!
Hmmmm, David Conrad?
….the loyal husband from Ghost Whisperer
Geoffrey Rush is a very versatile actor who can add a touch of commedy convincingly and subtly if need be. Gene Hackman is anothetr option.
Corbin Bernsen, Adian Quinn, Craig Schaffer, Kevin Durand (though he may be too tall), Liam Neeson,
Neal McDonough
Philip Seymour Hoffman
elliott gould
This sounds strange but Ed O’Neill bares a resemblence.
David Strathairn
I was going to suggest me but I read someone else’s suggestion of John C Reilly. He would do better than I. If he can’t, I’m your man. My German professor said my German accent was spot on.
tom berenger i think would be an excellent choice.
Tom Selleck or John Lithgow
